If you live in a wealthy country, you're responsible for roughly nine tonnes of CO₂ a year. One long-haul return flight is about a tonne of it.
Some of that you control. Some you don't. If your grid runs on gas, your electricity carries a carbon cost whatever you do at home. Knowing the difference is where useful action starts.
WHAT you can change.
Before buying anything, cut what you can. Some of it is easy, some genuinely isn't, and it's rarely the things you'd expect.
We keep a list of practical changes, ordered by how much difference they actually make.
What is a carbon credit
One credit is one tonne of CO₂ kept out of the atmosphere, either stopped before it happens, like methane captured at a landfill, or taken back out and stored.
An independent auditor checks it's real. It's logged in a public registry. When it's used it's retired: cancelled for good, so the same tonne can't be sold twice.
You've read that offsets don't work. Some of that was fair, mostly aimed at older forest projects where the claimed savings were far bigger than the real ones. It's why credits need checking rather than trusting.
A credit covers what you can't remove yet. Not what you haven't got round to.

A few credits on its own is a tiny order. Other sellers would charge you an exceptionally high price. But we pool individual orders along with institutional orders, and buy them together. We give you access to the same climate impact as Fortune 500 companies.
THE CREDITS ARE RETIRED
Our team sources and negotiates the purchase of credits, and then cancels them permanently so that the impact is real. We retire in batches through our own registry account, which keeps the cost down. The registry shows Abatify, and your certificate has details which you can use to track.
YOU CAN CHECK IT
Your certificate has a number which you can search in our registry. You can see the live status of the order using that number.
